Вычисляется по-разному, в зависимости от position состояния поля.
Для относительно расположенных блоков top определяет, насколько далеко поле смещено от своего начального верхнего края. Таким образом, положительное значение фактически сместит поле вниз.
Для полей с абсолютным (или фиксированным) положением top определяет, насколько поле смещено от верхнего края содержащего его блока (являющегося страницей или содержащим его расположенным полем).
Возможные значения

Пример: 100px.
[в процентах]
Значение: [в процентах].
Примечание: вычисляется в зависимости от высоты содержащего поля.
Пример: 50%.
auto
Значение: auto.
Примечание: по умолчанию.
inherit
Значение: inherit.
initial
Значение: initial.
unset
Значение: unset.
